CASA chair Mark Binskin presented the 2024 CASA Wings Awards to the winners in a ceremony at Avalon 2025 last Friday.

The Wings Awards recognise the contributions to general aviation of individuals and organisations in five categories. The presentation last week was the first time in the history of the awards that all presentations were done in one single ceremony.

The presentation ceremony took on added prestige after being moved from the advertised GA Pavilion to the AMDA Foundation Chairman's Suite.

Present to accept their awards, citations and prizes were:

  • Cameron Marchant – Col Pay Award for a Lifetime of Service to General Aviation
  • Royal Aero Club of New South Wales – Aero Club of the Year, represented by Lachlan Hyde
  • Jeremy Miller – Flying Instructor of the Year
  • Georgie Arnold – Young Achiever of the Year

Flight Training Organisation of the Year, Panair from Bathurst, was unable to send a representative, but instead responded via  a pre-recorded video from the USA, with Avalon commentator Angela Stevenson accepting the trophy on their behalf.

Since their inception in 2014, the Wings Awards have grown in stature. Presented by the Australian Division of the Royal Aeronautical Society and Australian Flying, and sponsored by CASA, the 2024 Wings Awards were supported by Garmin, Bose, David Clark and World Fuel, all of which provided prizes to the winners.

Important dates for the 2025 Wings Awards are expected to be released in the coming months.
