Air Race World Championship (ARWC) has announced Jakarta Indonesia will host a round of the 2022 world championship in October.
Jakarta is the first confirmed venue for the 2022 season, which is draws its heritage from the Red Bull Air Race series held between 2003-19.
The deal for the Jakarta race, to be held on 14-16 October, comes with commitments to hold ARWC rounds in Bali in 2023 and Lake Toba in 2024.
"We are extremely excited to announce this host country agreement with Indonesia," said ARWC CEO Nalin Jay.
"We would particularly like to thank Minister Luhut and the Vice Governor for their support and highly pro-active approach and we look forward to putting on a spectacular show for the people of Jakarta and Indonesia over the next three years.
"Indonesia is already one of the world’s biggest and most diverse countries with an incredible future growth trend. We’re delighted to play a small part in this exciting new chapter in Indonesia’s long and proud history. With a population of over 270 million people, it is already the 4th most populous country in the world and in PPP terms, it is already the 7th biggest economy in the world.
"Indonesia is well on its way to becoming an economic superpower of the 21st century."
Ir. H. Ahmad Riza Patria MBA, Vice Govenor of Jakarta, said the ARWC round would put a spotlight on the city of 10 million people.
“It is a great pleasure for me to announce that Indonesia will host the prestigious Air Race World Championship event here in Jakarta," he said. "This spectacular event will highlight Indonesia as a premier location for global motorsport and will in particular increase local economies and Indonesia’s economy in general post pandemic era.
"Furthermore it will show Indonesia’s readiness for the upcoming G20 summit."
ARWC has announced no other venues for the 2022 season, although a round at Lake Macquarie, NSW, has been hotly tipped for later in the year.
