Air Race World Championship (ARWC), the international series carrying on the tradition of the Red Bull Air Race, has confirmed a leg of the 2022 series will be held in Australia.

The Australian race is scheduled for 19-20 November at a venue to be revealed next week, but hotly tipped to be Lake Macquarie, home of team Matt Hall Racing. Contracts have also been signed for optional races in 2023 and 2024.

It will be the first time an air race championship has been held in Australia since the Perth round of the Red Bull Air Race in 2010.

Nalin Jay, CEO of Air Race Limited said, “I’m delighted to announce the we have signed these agreements to race in Australia for the 2022 Air Race Season, with options for 2023 and 2024.

"Australia has an incredible sporting legacy, and it is only fitting that we are racing in the home country of the current Air Race World Champion, Matt Hall.

“The last time I raced in Australia was 2010," Hall added, "so to be racing again in Australia is really exciting.”

The series is scheduled to start in the UK on 9-10 July at the legendary Goodwood motor racing circuit. At the time of writing, the only other confirmed race is in Jakarta, Indonesia, 15-16 October, although weekend slots have been reserved for September and December 2022.

Australia's Matt Hall will go into the inaugural ARWC season carrying the mantle of World Champion that he won in the final round of the last Red Bull Air Race season in 2019.

AWRC has estimated that 150,000 will attend the Australian event in November.
