Airservices Australia this week announced it had entered a partnership with charity UNIQ You to inspire more women to pursue careers in aviation.
UNIQ You is a registered not-for-profit organisation that provides links for girls at secondary school level with professionals working in industries in which women are under-represented.
Airservices Australia CEO Jason Harfield said the partnership reflected his organisation's commitment to gender diversity.
“Key to this is a culture where all our people feel included and can bring their whole selves to work, every day, without exception” Harfield said.
“It’s imperative that we play a lead role in increasing the number of young girls and women entering the pipeline, who can play a lead role in helping us to provide safe, secure, efficient, and environmentally responsible services to the aviation industry and community.
“UNIQ You helps Airservices to engage with and influence Year 9-12 girls during their critical career decision-making years.”
Airservices' roles include technical specialists, air traffic control and aerodrome rescue and firefighting (ARFF).
Airservice's culture towards women came under the spotlight in May 2020,when a report penned by former Sex Discrimination Commissioner Elizabeth Broderick that found a culture of "bullying, harassment and workplace exclusion" that Harfield labeled as "totally unacceptable".
Harfield then committed Airservices to building "a stronger, respectful and more diverse" organisation.
