Italian manufacturer Tecnam announced overnight that the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) had issued a type certificate for the P2006T NG.
The latest generation of the Rotax-powered twin features crew doors on both sides, an increase in MTOW thanks to fuel-injected Rotax 912iSc3 engines and upgrades to the interior and avionics.
Certification has come less than one year after Tecnam launched the new model at AERO Friedrichshafen in April 2024.
Tecnam Managing Director Giovanni Pascale Langer said the P2006T NG cemented the company's place as a major manufacturer of type-certified aircraft.
"First of all, I would like to thank my design and certification team for this great result," he said. "Today, with this new certification, Tecnam confirms its position as one of the most prolific aircraft manufacturers, as we certify several new designs every year in order to offer our customers the most advanced aircraft."
The P2006T NG has an increased MTOW of 1290 kg that allows 60 kg more payload that previous models and Tecnam estimates the 912iSc3 engines can consumes as little as 14 lph per engine.
The new design will also enable operators of mixed fleets to interchange engines and accessories between the P2006T NG and the Tecnam P-Mentor IFR trainer, which was intended to streamline logistics and operational efficiency.
Internally, the P2006T NG has a totally redesigned cockpit, with a central console containing an FMS GCU477 keyboard, which enables input to the Garmin G1000Nxi avionics.
The standard panel includes a three-axis Garmin GFC700 autopilot with Electronic Stability and Protection (ESP), coupled to a GI275 stand-by instrument.
Accessibility has been improved with four independent doors: pilot, co-pilot/instructor, passengers and baggage.
Tecnam will also offer the new twin in a luxury variant called the P2006T NG Sport, which features a black leather panel glareshield, carbon-fibre panels and yokes and Alcantara headliners and plush moquette seats.
Tecnam has sold more than 300 P2006T over the past decade, placing it as the third most delivered twin after Diamond's DA42 and DA62. It is the only Rotax-powered certified twin.
