Australian Matt Hall has been forced to withdraw from the final round of the 2016 Red Bull Air Race championship after his MSX-R racer was found to be unserviceable.

The problem, believed to be a damaged wing, can't be repaired in time for this weekend's Las Vegas race, meaning Hall and his team will record a Did Not Start (DNS) result.

"Obviously we are all very disappointed as we came to Las Vegas excited about the prospect of defending the race title we won here last season," Hall said.

"It's a shame for our season to end like this but we are now already turning our attention to 2017 and look forward to again challenging for the Red Bull Air Race World Championship."

The withdrawal will not effect Hall's standing in the championship, as his fourth place in Indianapolis earlier this month cemented a second-place finish with 55.75 points behind new champion Matthias Dolderer.

Hall finished the year with two race wins in Ascot and Lausitz, and was classified third in the rain-effected Budapest round, his only other podium for the year.
