Gold Coast will have a Temporary Restricted Area (TRA) and airport access restrictions applied to GA aeroplanes during the  Pacific Airshow Gold Coast next month.

Airservices this week issued AIP SUP H48/23 detailing the operational changes surrounding the Gold Coast to facilitate the air show. The AIP SUP details a Temporary Restricted Area (TRA) to be activated that will put the Gold Coast off limits for transiting aircraft.

The TRA is expected to impact both Gold Coast and Brisbane airspace.

Although Gold Coast airport itself is not in the show precinct–which is over Broadbeach–it will host some of the performing display aircraft.

In Aeronautical Information Circular (AIC) H24/23 issued last week, Airservices Australia states that some portions of the movement area will be closed to normal traffic from 16-21 August to allow the passage of air show display aircraft.

Apron and taxiway facilities the will be unavailable for regular air traffic operations during the show include:

  • RPT apron Bay 1 MARS (Multiple Aircraft Receiving Stands) and Bay 2
  • Remote stand MARS 30
  • Taxiway Alpha from Bay 2 eastwards
  • associated GSE storage and apron access roads

A temporary Performance Apron will be delineated by U/S cones and yellow taxiway markers within the confines of the affected movement area.

The AIC also issues a warning to the GA community over the availability of parking during the air show.

"As the GA parking apron at Gold Coast Airport is generally at capacity and occupied by local operators the airport is unable to accept bookings or reservations for itinerant recreational aircraft over the show period," the AIC states.

"Parking for other purposes will only be permitted with express permission of Gold Coast Airport (GCA).

"GCA recommends show attendees travelling to the Gold Coast avoid use of private/chartered aircraft and consider alternative methods of travel to avoid disappointment and to minimise logistical and safety concerns."

More information is expected to be posted on the Pacific Airshow Gold Coast website.
