Forty-four regional airports have been granted federal funding after the Federal Government last month announced the successful projects in round three of the Regional Airports Program.
The airports will share $27.9 million covering upgrade projects such as resurfacing runways, installing fencing, installing lighting and drainage works.
At the top of the grant list are $5 million each to upgrade Kempsey and Broken Hill, $2.3 million to resurface Echuca and install an aeromedical transfer station and $1.5 million for runway works at Emerald, QLD.
“The Regional Airports Program delivers significant benefits for regional aviation and communities, including increasing safety for aircraft, operators and passengers, said Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government Minister Catherine King.
“These projects are also an investment in the improved delivery of goods and services, including healthcare and passenger air services.
“The Australian Government is committed to bolstering connections from Australia’s regions to domestic and global market opportunities.
“Investing in our regional airports is also critical to supporting the operational requirements of aeromedical and other emergency services.”
