The Civil Aviation Safety Authority is urging pilots and operators to sign pledges committing them to safe aviation.

CASA announced the pledge program in the April 2025 CASA Briefing newsletter published yesterday.

"You can help reinforce positive practices and culture while demonstrating your commitment to aviation safety with our new voluntary pledges," CASA says.

"The pledges for individuals and organisations promote practical actions that reduce risk, strengthen safety culture, and encourage best practices across the industry.

"By publicly committing to an action, the chances are that you will follow through and set an example for others. You can  also strengthen your identity and reputation as a safety advocate."

The two pledges–My Safety is in My Hands for pilots and Their Safety is in Our Hands for operators–commit people to acting for aviation safety in seven ways:

  • prioritising pre-flight preparation
  • adhering to flight regulations
  • continuously improving skills and knowledge
  • respecting skies and peers
  • speaking up for safety
  • staying alert and focused
  • fostering a culture of safety and continuous learning.

CASA says the names those signing the pledge can be posted to the CASA website, and if they choose, receive a digital badge noting their commitment.

Pilots and operators wishing to sign the pledge can do so via the CASA website.
