Two F-35 Lightning II Joint Strike Fighters (JSF) have been confirmed for the Australian International Airshow at Avalon, the Defence Minister Senator Marise Payne announced today.
The aircraft will be flown to Avalon directly from their bases in the USA, where they are being used to train pilots for the Royal Australian Air Force.
Australia currently has 72 JSFs on order from Lockheed Martin, the first of which is due to be accepted next year ahead of the first operational squadron in 2021.
Other than a mock-up, this will be the first appearance of a JSF at Avalon.
The Australian International Airshow runs from 28 February to 5 March at Avalon Airport near Geelong.
