One of Victoria's most popular aviation events, the Tyabb Airshow, has been postponed.

Peninsula Aero Club (PAC), which operates Tyabb Airport and organises the air show, said last night that uncertainty over COVID restrictions was behind the decision to postpone the event from its March 2022 date.

"After considering the current fluctuating situation around COVID and the dynamic environment and uncertainty, PAC has decided to pause current planning and postpone the 2022 Airshow until March 2023," the announcement says.

"We are fully committed to delivering a safe and open environment for all participants and attendees at the Airshow. As we are not able to guarantee this will be the situation next March, postponement is unfortunately the most appropriate action at this stage."

Tyabb Airshow has traditionally been run every two years on a non-Avalon year, with support from local warbird owners, Paul Bennet, the Temora Aviation Museum and the Royal Australian Air Force. The show has been instrumental in bringing a lot of business to the Mornington Peninsula town and pouring money into the coffers of selected charities.

In an attempt to keep the connection to the community and the charities, PAC will instead hold a series of smaller open days, which the club believes will lower the risk due to COVID and relieve the club of some financial risk.

"This will still allow PAC to provide aircraft lovers a chance to get up close and see our collection of unique aircraft, as well as raise much needed money for local charities," the club said.
