The Australian Aviation Wildlife Hazard Group is holding a workshop on the Gold Coast later this month aimed at further developing its recommended practices.
Australia's national wildlife strike committee is focused on improving aviation safety and dealing with a problem that has plagued aviation since the Wright Flyer struck a bird in 1905.
The workshop is one of two biennial events and follows last year’s successful forum in Adelaide. It will take place on the Gold Coast from 24-26 October.
Attendees are invited to share their knowledge and have input into the AAWHG’s respected industry-designed wildlife hazard management recommended practices.
CASA sponsors the event as part of of its safety promotion sponsorship program.
Organisers are seeking representatives from all facets of aviation including aircrew, ground staff, airports, pilots, air traffic control and maintenance.
The 2023 workshop will focus on updating and finalising several recommended practices, which are: wildlife strike reporting and record keeping, wildlife strike minimisation (aircraft-based mitigation) and training and competency for air traffic control. An existing recommended practice – training and competency for flight crew – will also be reviewed and updated.
