Angle of Attack (AoA) indicators will now be fitted standard to all new C172s, Cessna announced yesterday.

The company will install Safe Flight SCc AoA indicators in all Skyhawks, with the system remaining optional for the C182 Skylane and C206 Stationair.

AoA indicators–sometimes called lift reserve indicators–use graphics and sound to display the margin between a wing's current angle of attack and the angle of attack that will cause a stall.

Safe Flight's dash-mounted system provides trend and AoA information during all phases of flight, giving instant visual and audio feedback.

"Textron Aviation is constantly looking for innovative solutions for our piston customers and making the SCc Angle of Attack system standard on all Skyhawk aircraft is a great example of bringing the latest technology to our products,“ said Doug May, Cessna Vice President – Piston Aircraft.

“We are thrilled to work with Safe Flight to bring this latest enhancement to the cockpit, providing an improved flying experience for our customers.”

According to Cessna, the SCc is the only supplemental AoA system to utilize leading edge lift information, which it believes is the most accurate and dependable measurement of AoA.

More information on Safe Flight's SCc system is on the Safe Flight website.
