Australian Company EQ1 Wireless Communications has launched Series 3 of its wireless aviation headset.

The new design builds on the popularity of the EQ-1 and EQ-1 Series 2, the world's first wireless aviation headsets.

"We are very proud to introduce the EQ-1 series 3 wireless aviation headset," said EQ1's Gordon Marshall. "Improved cup design, outstanding noise attenuation for both passive and digital noise reduction, the complete freedom of movement that can only be achieved without wires, a battery life of over 24 hours and Bluetooth connectivity to your phone.

"The headsets themselves can be used independently in peer-to-peer situations, there is a multiplace system that allows up to six headsets to operate with full duplex from a single headset socket, thereby reducing aircraft communications installations by thousands of dollars.

"Wireless PTT built into the headset for those that are moving around such as airport tug drivers, a reversible wireless product that allows existing wired headsets to be used wirelessly from the aircraft (think of rescue helicopter helmets)."

For this small Western Australian company, the move into premium aviation headsets a few years ago was an ambitious step given the market dominance of US and German products. Their point of difference was the lack of wires, something introduced by Lightspeed only last week.

"Our initial foray into the world of aviation was certainly an eye opener for us, we expected that if we designed a wireless system then surely every pilot in the world would simply want wireless and we would all be rich and live happily ever after.

"First you need to get your product right, now that in itself is a challenge, sifting through customer comments to find real issues rather than simple operating confusion is a challenge, responding to suggestions may seem easy but often it involved weeks of re-writing software and then the testing, testing, testing.

"Its been a long and challenging journey for the company that invented the world’s first wireless aviation headset."

The EQ-1 Series 3 is now available for delivery before Christmas and retails at less than $1000.
