Tecnam has installed two new high-tech Lycoming engines in the P2012 Traveller prototype.

Two new single-turbo, non-intercooled Lycoming TEO-540-C1A Integrated Electronic Engines (iE2) were mated with the test fuselage at Tecnam's Capua factory this week.

The iE2 engine represents the pinnacle of Lycoming technology, featuring an engine and control concept designed from the beginning to be electronically controlled. The multi-port injection system continuously optimises the engine's performance in terms of fuel flow and power output.

“This configuration provides the P2012 Traveller with the power, durability and efficiency necessary for our first intended use as a passenger airplane,” stated Paolo Pascale, Tecnam Managing Director.

“We are pleased with the partnership that has been built between Lycoming and Tecnam to move this project forward,” he said.

The P2012 is an 11-seat high-wing charter and commercial aircraft designed to take the place of ageing large piston twins. Tecnam expects to roll-out the first Traveller in February with the first flight scheduled for next June.
