Maybe I'm being a bit judgemental here, but I'm not sure the pilot did everything he could to ascertain whether or not the gear was down. We don't see everything, but it's clear that he lands without knowing the status of his wheels. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to watch this video with your flying instructor and work out what you would have done under these circumstances.
