Matt Hall will take a positive attitude into this weekend's Red Bull Air Race at Ascot despite the disappointment of not making the Final 4 in the last round in Budapest.

Clearly the fastest all weekend on the track along the Danube, Hall was almost certain to score his first race win until he met Martin Sonka in the Round of 8, and was eliminated.

Despite that, Hall is still second in the standings and clearly has the fastest plane on the tour. The team also knows what it takes to win; they just have to put it all together at Ascot on Sunday.

"I was able to perform at a level in Budapest that was consistently higher than I had been able to hold previously and we can only take positives from that," said Hall ahead of this weekend's fifth race of 2015 at the Ascot Racecourse, west of London.

He added it was frustrating to fly the third fastest time of the Round of 8 yet get knocked out in the head-to-head race format.

"Yes, Martin beat me fair and square but I still had the third fastest time of that Round of 8. Sure, the end result didn't work out as hoped but at the end of the day I think I proved what I can achieve.

"If I can be as consistent as I have been throughout the year, I think we have a good chance, but again we're focused on the process of flying mistake-free, rather than the end result."

Hall has fond memories of last year's first-ever race on the famous Ascot horse racing track, with a huge crowd of spectators watching the action from up close.

"I loved racing there last year. It's a special place and the atmosphere was sensational. It's rare that we are so close to the crowd and I expect it to be a similar vibe this time around."

Australian audiences can watch the weekend's action live on www.redbullairrace.com on Sunday. Qualifying starts at 1.00 am AEST, with the Round of 14 starting at 11.00 pm Sunday night and the Round of 8 from 1.00 am.

Alternatively, the Round of 8 onward will be televised live on Fox Sports 5.
