As part of the International Day of the Air Traffic Controller tomorrow, Airservices has recognised the professional work its employees do.
Airservices acknowledged all controllers and operational staff for their continual commitment to the safe and efficient delivery of air traffic management.
Airservices Executive General Manager Air Traffic Control, Jason Harfield, said that controllers were vital to keeping the traveling public safe.
“Each and every day, seven days a week, 365 days a year, our air traffic controllers provide a crucial service in helping the travelling public reach their destination safely and efficiently,” he said.
“Tomorrow is about recognising the efforts of our staff, and I would like to thank all of them for the job that they do in keeping our system running smoothly and making air travel one of the safest modes of transport in the world.”
Airservices will recognise several air traffic controllers through a peer-nominated program and professional development opportunities.
Australia's air traffic controllers manage over 11% of the world’s airspace, which includes more than four million flights carrying over 80 million passengers per year.
Airservices employs around 1000 controllers working from two major centres, four terminal control areas, and 28 control towers.
