Australia's Red Bull Air Race pilot Matt Hall and reigning World Champion Nigel Lamb of Great Britain are set to fly side-by-side at Warbirds Downunder in November.
Warbirds Downunder is staged every two years by the Temora Aviation Museum, and this year is on 20-21 November.
As Hall prepares for the Red Bull Air Race in Fort Worth, Texas, this weekend, he reflected on his impending trip to Temora for the air show.
“I've been fortunate enough to fly a number of different aircraft over the years, from gliders, to fighter jets, to race planes and they are all special in their own way,” he said, “So too are Warbirds and I am really looking forward to coming to Temora for Warbirds Downunder to get my fix! The aircraft will definitely be the stars of the show that weekend and I feel privileged to be part of it.”
For Lamb, this will not be his first trip to Temora. He was there in 1993 coaching Australian aerobatic pilots, and says he is looking forward to a return trip.
“Temora has a special place in my heart as I was there with the Australian Aerobatic Team some years before the birth of the aviation museum," he said. "Over the years, I have been privileged to fly both the Spitfire Mk Vlll and Mk XVl. I flew the Mk XVl in Wanaka a few times before it joined TAM so it’ll be wonderful to be re-acquainted again.
"My chances to retain the Red Bull Air Race World title have already disappeared so it’s now a contest between Matt Hall and Paul Bonhomme. How wonderful it would be for Matt to win it so we can have the 2014 and 2015 RBAR champions flying wing to wing over Temora this November!”
