A new aviation organisation has started community service flights from Bankstown.
Wings4Kidz, which provides flights for sick children and their families, conducted their first flight on 23 February, using a Cessna 340 to take the four members of the Lillyman family home to Narromine.
The trip, normally a drive of over seven hours, took only 57 minutes.
"To this family of four, this is their reality and to even make a small difference in their life is rewarding beyond words," Wings4Kidz said on their website.
"Today, this family needed our help and we were able to help them. When a child is sick, we’ve been told you crave for some sort of sense of normality – of being at home, sleeping in your own bed, and feeding the horses and sheep and being able to get home in time so your daughter can attend pre-school the next day. Today, we made a big difference to this family."
Wings4Kidz hopes to do 1000 flights every year and has aims of expanding into other states in the future.
Officially, the charity won't be launched until the Wings, Wheels and Wine Festival in Mudgee, NSW, on 24 April.
Wings4Kidz is supported by former Little Wings CEO Kevin Robinson.
