A Drifter pilot is aiming to set a new Australian record for the most take-offs and landings in a day, with the aim of raising funds for a greyhound charity.

Tim Howes will attempt to fly 120 circuits at Murwillumbah, NSW, in the first or second week of May this year.

As well as setting a new mark, Howes' motivation is to raise money for Friends of the Hound, a charity group that works to protect greyhounds discarded by the racing industry.

"This is my chance, not just to raise funds, but raise awareness of this fantastic organisation," says Howes. "This is my opportunity to show other people how great these dogs are, and how unnecessary the wastage of the approximately 20,000 dogs that are put to sleep every year is."

Howes believes that the Drifter's will take him to the record thanks to a shortened circuit time. "They're very maneouvrable, have great low-speed performance and also have fantastic take-off and landing performance," he says.

The previous record of 102 was set at Illawarra on May 7, 2011 by Ron Watts in his Beech Musketeer, raising funds for the Mission Aviation Fellowship.
