Victoria's Swinburne University has signed an agreement with the Sir Reginald Ansett Trust to offer a new aviation scholarship in 2011.
Valued at $10,000 per year for a period of three years, the Sir Reginald Ansett Trust Scholarship for Aviation will enable young people with a passion for a flying career or an operational/management career with airlines and airports to reach their full academic potential and realise their goal by financing their study costs. One scholarship will be offered annually as of 2011.
“A firm believer in providing young Australians with opportunities to succeed, this scholarship commemorates the contribution of Sir Reginald Ansett to aviation in Australia,” Swinburne aviation lecturer and former Ansett executive John Bibo said. “As Sir Reginald became a qualified knitting-machine mechanic at Swinburne Technical College, it is fitting that the scholarship is identified with Swinburne.
“Over the past few years, the university has been committed to making aviation education available to the financially disadvantaged. This scholarship goes one step further to opening up opportunities for those with a real enthusiasm for aviation.”
To be eligibile for the scholarship students must demonstrate a passion for an aviation career, be accepted into a full-time undergraduate Aviation program at Swinburne, commence study in semester one 2011, have completed Year 12 in 2010 (or in 2009, and taken a gap year in 2010), demonstrate financial need, and be an Australian citizen.
Courses eligible under the scholarship include the Bachelor of Aviation, Bachelor of Aviation (Management), Bachelor of Aviation/Bachelor of Commerce, and Bachelor of Aviation (Management)/Bachelor of Commerce.
Applications close midday January 28, 2011; for an application form and guidelines for applications click here.
The Sir Reginald Ansett Trust was established in July 2010 to provide grants for public charitable purposes in Australia, with an emphasis to assist young people to take their place in life.
