Tecnam has released performance figures from the first flight of the second P2010 prototype.
The second of the four-seat GA aircraft flew from Tecnam's Capua base on 17 February this year. Test pilot Marco Locatelli reported the aircraft's behaviour as "safe and predictable at all investigated speed."
At a take-off weight of 905 kg, the test flight showed the following performance for the P2010.
- Acceleration to 50 kt took 13 seconds and about 380 metres of runway
- Initial climb to 5000 feet at a rate of 800 fpm at full power
- At 82 knots, an increase of pitch attitude to 14 degrees gave a climb rate of 1000 fpm
- 5000 feet AGL achieved after five minutes from brake release
- Flap-up stall at 53 knots
- Both ailerons and rudder are effective in the stall.
Constructed with a carbon-fibre fuselage slung below a metal wing, the P2010 is well on its way to EASA certification, with the second prototype to be used for NVFR and IFR trials. The cockpit is fitted with G1000 avionics and a G700 autopilot.
Once it hits the market, the P2010 is expected to be a serious competitor for the C172, Piper PA28 and Diamond DA40 in the four-seat GA class.
