OK, so most of us aren't going to be flying Su-29 Flankers any time soon, but many of us will be flying retractables. Unless there has been a major malfunction this pilot was a bit quick with the gear lever on take-off, and wore the consequences at their worst. Remember, positive rate of climb before reaching for the gear knob. The pilot could eject from the plane, but their commanding officer still awaited them.
