The death this week of Chuck Yeager brings to an end the era of the intrepid test pilots of the post-war era. Pilots like Yeager, Scott Crossfield and Bill Bridgeman expanded the envelope of flight into what they called the great "ughknown". Contoversial to the end, Yeager was still a great pioneer.
