The 2023 CASA Wings Awards opened for nominations this week, with five categories available.
The Wings Awards were first held in 2014 and were established to recognise the contribution and efforts of individuals and organisations to the general aviation community in Australia. They are presented jointly by the Australian Division of the Royal Aeronautical Society (RAeS) and Australian Flying, Since the beginning of the scheme, 39 awards have been made.
Categories returning for the 2023 awards are:
- Col Pay Award for a Lifetime of Service to General Aviation
- Aero of the Year
- Flying Instructor of the Year
- Flying Training Organisation of the Year
- Young Achiever of the Year.
Each category has specific criteria set by the Australian Division of the Royal Aeronautical Society (RAeS) that each nomination will be measured against.
Although sponsored by CASA, the Wings Awards are independently judged by a panel that includes:
- RAeS General Manager Doug Nancarrow
- Aerobatic Champion and Flying Instructor David Pilkington
- Flying the Outback's Shelley Ross
- Australian Flying editor Steve Hitchen
Nominations for the award can be made through the Australian Flying website and will close on 5 November 2023, with the winners announced in Australian Flying March-April 2024.
