Dynon Avionics announced late last week that the Federal Aviation Administration in the US had certified its autopilot for retrofit to a range of Cessna 182 aircraft.
The FAA has approved the autopilot for models from the C182E upward, including the retractable and turbo-charged versions.
"Dynon’s autopilot is available as an option for its certified SkyView HDX avionics system for select aircraft," Dynon said in its announcement.
"When equipped, Dynon-equipped Skylane aircraft gain a full-featured two-axis autopilot system that is approach capable when paired with a compatible third-party IFR navigation device."
The autopilot features several operating modes including straight-and-level, heading hold, track hold, roll hold, nav hold, vertical speed and ASI.
The autopilot can also accomodate most approach functions such as VNAV/Glideslope and fully-coupled approaches.
An envelope protection function provides pilots with protection against accidental g limit exceedance, overspeed and excessive bank angle. It will also disconnect automatically if it senses the aircraft is in a take-off roll.
Dynon has set pricing at $US4870 for the kit including brackets, hardware and servo harnesses. An autopilot control panel is separate at $US579.
