The first production version of the Cirrus SF50 Vision single-engined jet flew for the first time last week in Duluth, Minnesota.
The event is one of the last steps towards full FAA certification of the long-awaited six-seat single-pilot jet.
Test pilot Terry LeSage reported that the aircraft, dubbed P1, handled no differently than the certification prototypes.
SF50 development will now shift from the engineering and production phases into flight testing. Cirrus is able to fly the jet as experimental until the FAA issues the final type certificate.
FAA certification had been expected before the end of 2015, but delays to the program caused Cirrus to revise that to the first half of 2016.
Only after the type certificate is issued can customer deliveries commence.
