Nominations for the 2024 CASA Wings Awards opened earlier this month.

Now beginning their 11th year, the awards scheme recognises the efforts of people and organisations that form the backbone of general aviation in Australia.

Presented by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority, Australian Flying and the Australian Division of the Royal Aeronautical Society, the awards cover five categories, the most prestigious of which is the Col Pay Award for a Lifetime of Service to General Aviation.

The other categories for 2024 are:

  • Aero Club of the Year
  • Flying Instructor of the Year
  • Flight Training Organisation of the Year
  • Young Achiever of the Year

The CASA Wings Awards are supported by several organisations in the Australian GA community, including Garmin, David Clark, Bose and World Fuel Services.

This year, the winners of the three individual categories will also be awarded prizes in conjunction with the trophy and citation:

  • Col Pay Award – Garmin D2 Mach 1 Pro Aviator Smartwatch with vented titanium bracelet valued at $2429
  • Flight Instructor of the Year – David Clark DC ONE-X ANR Headset valued at $1895
  • Young Achiever of the Year – Bose A30 Aviation Headset valued at $2050.

World Fuel Services will also award $500 in fuel credit for Aero Club of the Year and Flight Training Organisation of the Year.

The people who nominate the successful candidates will also receive a 12-month subscription to Australian Flying.

People wishing to nominate candidates for any of the awards can download judging criteria and lodges submissions on the Australian Flying website, which also contains the Honour Roll of previous winners.

Nominations must be submitted no later than 10 November, with the winners formally announced in Australian Flying March-April 2025.
