Six people have been honoured for services to civil aviation in the 2017 Australia Day list.
The awards were officially announced yesterday in a list published by the Govenor General Sir Peter Cosgrove.
Officer in the General Division of the Order of Australia (AO)
Massimo "John" Borghettl
- Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, Virgin Australia Group, since 2010.
- Chairman, Tigerair,2013-2015.
- Director, Piper Aircraft, United States of America, 2009-2010.
- Executive General Manager, Qantas Airlines, 2003-2009 and Employee, 1973-2009.
John Laurence Hardy
- Honorary Air Commodore, Number 13 (City of Darwin) Squadron, Royal Australian Air Force, since 2014.
- Member, Regional Aviation Association Australia, 2005-2015
- Founder and Managing Director, Hardy Aviation, 1991-2014.
Member in the General Division of the Order of Australia (AM)
John Wallace Dickenson OAM (elevated to AM)
- Inventor and developer of the Delta Ski Wing kite, 1963.
- Developed and constructed an A-frame and weight shift control system which allowed the Delta Ski Wing kite to be accurately manoeuvred, allowing it to develop to the next stage of foot-launched hang gliders and paragliders enabling them to be flown from hills and cliffs, 1964.
Donald Leslie Moffatt
- Deputy Chairman, CareFlight Group Queensland, since 2013.
- Chairman, Sunshine Coast Helicopter Rescue Service, 1998-2013.
