Local Diamond distributor Utility Air is preparing to bring the first DA50RG single-engined diesel into the country.
The DA50RG is a five-seat low wing powered by a Continental CD-300 turbo-charged, FADEC controlled diesel that develops 300 hp on take-off and 272 hp maximum continuous power.
Diamond is hoping to compete with the Cirrus SR22T in the high-speed single market.
Utility expects the first Australian delivery to occur in February next year, which Utility director John Oppenheim believes is the beginning of a larger impact the model will have on the GA market.
"The Diamond DA50RG, set to arrive in Australia in 2025, is poised to redefine general aviation as the Beechcraft Bonanza of the 21st century," Oppenheim told Australian Flying.
"With a sleek design, enormous cabin and impressive performance capabilities—offering high speed, ultra efficiency and impressive avionics—it stands out.
"Its ability to burn Jet-A1 fuel not only enhances fuel efficiency and reduces operating costs but also aligns with more sustainable aviation practices, making it an essential addition to our big blue skies Downunder."
In preparation for what will be the first CD-300-powered aircraft in Australia, Utility Air and Continental combined to conduct a five-day maintenance workshop in Melbourne last month to ensure the aircraft is fully supported on arrival. The seminar bought 16 participants from all over the Asia-Pacific region, including two customers that have DA50s on order.
Diamond is set to display the first Australian delivery DA50RG at the Australian International Airshow at Avalon in March 2025.
