The Australian Transport Safety Bureau has released a new document that covers all its short investigations into aviation incidents in second quarter 2011.

Containing 16 investigation reports, the Aviation Short Investigation Bulletin: Second Quarter publication describes a variety of safety accidents and incidents, and shares the safety lessons learned.

The summary report is a compilation of the information the ATSB has gathered, sourced from individuals or organisations involved in the occurrences, on the circumstances surrounding the occurrence and what safety action may have been taken or identified as a result of the occurrence.

In addition, where appropriate the ATSB has also included ATSB Comment as a safety message directed to the broader aviation community.

The incidents covered include:

- Jet aircraft: breakdown of separation; weather related event; abnormal engine indications; windshear event; and airframe event.
- Turboprop aircraft: engine over-torque event.
- Piston aircraft: right engine failure; collision with terrain; aircraft loss of control; turbulence event; and wirestrike.
- Helicopters: partial power loss; wirestrike; weather related event; collision with obstacle.
