The Australian Transport Safety Board (ATSB) is seeking public comments on proposed changes to mandatory incident and accident reporting by July 27.

Two changes are proposed to mandatory reporting, and a suite of draft regulations surrounding confidential reporting has also been drawn up.

The first change to incident and accident reporting relates to CASA's access to information. According to the ATSB, providing CASA with better access will fall in line with international practice and provide the safety regulator with "enhanced knowledge of the hazards and risks encoutered by the industry."

The second change proposed revises the existing list of accidents and incidents that need to be reported as "immediately reportable" and "routinely reportable" matters. The draft legislation is thought to be less prescriptive and will be based on "an assessment of the risk of death, injury and damage involved with each incident."

Included in the consultation package is also draft regulations for the confidential reporting system REPCON (formerly CAIR).

Feedback can be provided by downloading the documents from the ATSB website.
