Avia Aircraft has launched one of the world’s most advanced general aviation flight simulators.

The CKAS MotionSim system was officially opened by Victorian Minister Responsible for Aviation Gordon Rich-Phillips at Moorabbin Airport this morning.

Avia Co-founder Charles Gunther said the installation was a first for the Australian industry.

“Avia’s multi million dollar facility is the first of its kind in Australia,” he said, “bringing airline quality, training and technology to the general aviation market.

“A year in the making and brought to life by over 20,000 man-hours, our new simulator is the most advanced general aviation training simulator available world-wide.”

Boasting a full six degrees of freedom (DOF), 200 degree visuals, and Garmin 1000 glass, the CKAS MotionSim will offer training in several GA types, specifically Cirrus SR20/22, SF50, Beech King Air 200, Boeing 737, Phenom 100 and twin-engine pistons.

“[the simulator] really underscores the potential of the industry,” said Rich-Phillips, “and underscores the confidence Avia has in the general aviation sector in Australia and in Victoria.

“It’s great to see game-changing infrastructure like this come into operation in general aviation.

“It will deliver safer outcomes, it will deliver far more efficient and far more effective training.”

CKAS Mechatronics is a Tullamarine-based company that specialises in building low-cost six DOF simulators for aviation and industry. Their flight simulators comply with FAA, JAA, ICAO and CASA regulations.
