Ballarat and Learmonth Airports both won awards in Melbourne this week as the annual convention of the Australian Airports Association came to a close.
Ballarat was named Non-certified Aerodrome of the Year in recognition of its major infrastructure upgrade and Learmonth won Regional Airport of the Year for introducing a heliport operation.
The awards recognize significant achievement during the last 12 months. Other winners were:
- Capital City Airport of the Year: Melbourne Airport: for the International Arrivals (T2) and the 6th and 7th carousels project
- Major Airport of the Year: Sunshine Coast Airport: for the development of international services
- Corporate Project of the Year: Aerosure Asia Pacific: for the Australian and New Zealand Parallel Runways Project
There were also individual awards related to airport excellence.
- Capital City Airport: Jim Parashos, Director of Airline and Airport Services at Northern Territory Airports based at Darwin Airport
- Major Airport: Simon Hatfield, Operations Manager at Northern Territory Airports based at Alice Springs Airport
- Regional Airport: Leon Burger, Manager Airport Services for Newman Airport
- Non-RPT Certified and Non-certified Airport: Don Foy, Airport Foremen Archerfield Airport; and Mick Rye, Airport Foreman Moorabbin Airport
The award winners were selected from a record 44 nominations from across the country.
