Bankstown Airport has announced plans to cut short circuit training times for fixed wing aircraft due to noise complaints from local residents.

Effective Monday March 7, the finishing time for circuits at Bankstown from Monday to Friday will be brought forward one hour from 2300 to 2200. During the daylight savings period the circuit finishing time has been cut back from 2300 to 2230.

Colin Grove, CEO of Sydney Metro Airport Bankstown, says the changes to the airport’s noise abatement procedures are a balanced measure in response to community concerns regarding aircraft noise.

“Following the extensive consultation from our Master Plan process, the airport has implemented a number of changes to aircraft operations to improve the conditions for the surrounding community,” Grove explains.

“It is strong evidence of our willingness to both listen and act upon community concerns, whilst still maintaining the airport’s operational and commercial requirements. The measures have been delivered in consultation with the local aviation industry.

“Together with the changes to circuit operations we have also implemented tighter operating procedures to reduce the amount of noise generated from aviation operators based adjacent to residential areas.”

With Bankstown already boasting considerable movement numbers, it remains to be seen to what degree these latest curfew restrictions will impact on training operations at the airport.
